Acetone is a simple ketone (ketone: C=O bond) where as denatured alcohol is ethanol ( C-OH bond) with a maximum of 10 % methanol (wood alcohol). The methanol is added to keep certain folks from imbibing. Use either without worry to your health. Acetone would be the worst of these two organic solvents to use but doesn't cause any health issues with light use largely because it is more volatile, meaning it flashes off more easily and is therefore a fire hazzard if vapours are allowed to build up in a small closed area. I worked with acetone for 22-yrs without any problems. Denatured alcohol is the solvent that most folks know best. Hope this helps you understand both a little better.
