I'll probably make the drive and get the marine ply. It's so much nicer to work with and will leave me plenty of material for the inevitable next boat. I'll keep thinking about the stringer stock and skin.

The gunwale length will work itself out when I move from theory to the strongback. Your 14'2" estimate gives me a ballpark idea of what size blank to scarf up.
