: Hi, New poster here.

: I'm also getting ready to make a sea pup. It'll be a wood framed one. The
: design is 14'x19". For that size boat, should I expect the gunwales
: to end up around 15'? I'm in the planning stage, deciding how much and
: what materials to buy when I head off to the store.

: Anyone have strong opinions on construction grade materials vs. okoume and
: cedar/cypress/DF for a kid kayak with a limited life in fresh water? One
: store is a mile, the other is 70 miles away.

For a boat that skinny, the gunwales will likely be a tiny bit over 14', perhaps 14' 2". That's a guess, I'd ask Tom Yost, he's been very helpful for builders of his boat designs.

I've used construction grade ply as well as marine grade, not that much of a difference, but I also epoxy coat all exposed plywood edges regardless of the grade.

WRC will give you a light boat used for the stringers, but the last two I've built were of white pine and that works too. Clear wood is required, so whatever you can find that's fairly light and clear is ok.
