: Hello Everyone,
: I am so thrilled to be back!
: A few of the members here may remember my daughter and I on here in the
: summer of 2007. My daughter Lilly and I built one of Tom Yost's Sea Flea
: design and I was in here on occasion asking for advice.
: Now we are back. Lilly outgrew her kayak at the end of last years season and
: is asking Mom about the new boat for this year. So, here we are... and
: you'll probably see me peeking in as we embark on yet another SOF building
: adventure.

: My first dilema is... What model should I build next?
: I was looking strongly at the Sea Pup.
: Since Lilly is too big for the Sea Flea now... she weighs about 60'ish pounds
: ... Im guessing the Sea Pup is the next step.
: Any other opinions???
: I dont mind building a kayak every couple of years for her, but I do want to
: ensure that it will atleast last 2 paddling seasons. I hope. :)

: Also, if I do go with the Sea Pup, I will be looking for someone to help me
: out with the conversions. I had a friend help me sit down and do the last
: set of conversions for her Sea Flea, but that was a long time ago.
: Anyone here have the offsets in inches? Or better yet.. would you have them
: drawn out already? I would be thrilled to pay for your time and postage if
: you have a set to offer.

: Im also giving it some serious consideration to building an adult size boat
: at the same time. On occasion we find a friend that would like to go
: paddling with us, but dont have a kayak... It sure would be fun to have a
: spare! Havent even began to think of which one I will build.

: Building two boats at once? Hmmm I like a challenge. *grins*.

: Excited to begin!
: Looking forward to hearing from you all!
: Warm Smiles, ~Heather and Lilly

Hi Heather,

Looks like the Sea Pup would be the ideal, specially since your daughter is used to the narrow beam already with the Flea.

I can make up the offsets in inches fairly easily, I've done several of Tom's boats already. Personally I find it easier once the offsets are in hand to draw them directly on the plywood (assuming you're making it rigid?). The offsets can be emailed, so that's cheap :)

Tom might have them already, I'll ask (e-mail Tom couple of times a week already).

Would love to join you paddling, bit too far to commute looks like, 'bout 3000 miles .

Bill H.
