: I don't know about Bobby, but I too tried to keep things neat and tidy over
: the cockpit area. Just habit I guess. Also I didn't know exactly where the
: cockpit cutout would be. Still I was able to get most of my scarfs within
: the cutout area, thus eliminating them from the final deck. Completely
: covering the cockpit gives a really pleasing flow from fore to aft. I
: wouldn't have believed it until I actually built the Spirit. It just seems
: natural to do for this type of design where the cockpit is canted similar
: to a SOF. I don't think it would work on other design types with recessed
: cockpits, however. As for the cutout, it made a great test bed for paints
: and varnishes
I admit the smooth, solid deck does look cool. But to me with the canted cockpit of the traditional greenland style cockpit, attempting to strip over the sharp fore-aft transition just seems like being a glutton for punishment. I have no doubt it can be done, but is the temporary cool look worth the effort? I am so relieved when I no longer have to try to fit both ends of a strip, that I happily forego the chance to see the solid smooth deck.
