Michael

On my Sea Spirit 17 I have a 4-inch drop between the front and the rear of the coaming. To bend the strips in that area, I have a form in the middle, which I can staple to, as strips in this region will be cut out for the coaming. I also have two forms at the front of the coaming spaced 2-inches apart. I used staples construction elsewhere on the kayak. I am using 3/4” wide X 1/4” thick WRC strips. To bend the strip, I used a heat gun applying heat and slowly bending the strip while it was clamped at the coaming front. The heat was enough to make the bend without cracking the strip. I heat and bend and clamp each strip in place, let them cool, then unclamp them and glue them in also using the heat gun again. This pre shapes the strips prior to gluing them.
