In Response To: Epoxy: Teak and epoxy (greg root)

Hello Greg,
Even though it is a rather oily wood, teak is epoxied quite a bit in boat building and can be done successfully. It is a good idea to remove any oil that migrates to the surface before applying epoxy by wiping with acetone or laquer thinner.
This photo is of a coaming/recess built from teak - the sheer strips and outside stems are also from teak.

: Hi, folks-I'm about to start a project (non-kayak related) with some teak I
: have sitting around; I plan to use epoxy to seal the wood, and am
: wondering how well teak takes epoxy. The finished product will be subject
: to extreme weathering. I remember reading somewhere that teak requires
: treating before using epoxy. Any wisdom/tips/tricks I should be aware of?
: Thanks in advance, Greg
