It's nice that you want to build a fishing kayak but you will never get the bang for the buck you get with a rotomolded SOT fishing kayak. Those rotomolders can make a boat that give everything but kiss you on the cheek. If you have seen the latest advertisments they are so stable they show guys fishing with their legs hanging over one side and even casting standing up. I think it has something to do with the hull shape. They can probably mold shapes that are impossible with any type of wood or wood cored constuction.
If you want that type of stabile platform you'll need the 28-32" widths the plastic SOTs have.

: I've been looking around the internet for a few days for a s&g design for a
: fishing sea kayak without much success. I think I need an experienced
: person to let me know if it is even worth getting a sit in kayak if i want
: to fish with it.
: For example, is fishing an off shore reef going to be very difficult with say
: a guillemot?

: I dont mind towing a mesh crate behind the kayak to keep fish i have caught
: in, so live wells arent really necessary, and im sure i could rig up a
: moving, removable table to use to cut bait and fix lines etc.

: Mostly im worried about the tendency to roll over :/

: to sum up, is there compelling reason not to get a sit in for fishing, and
: will a design like a guillemot s&g or a night heron, etc, be so unstable
: as to make it very hard to fish?

: (oh yeh, i will, of course, be using this alot for non fishing purposes too!)
