So much is assumed when someone says "this boat doesn't need a rudder." Your experience paddling in the conditions you are in most often will tell you if a boat "doesn't need a rudder". I recommend building your boat without one,any boat,paddling often with other people,take courses in rescues, that should put the question in a more realistic context. I would love to find out if anybody has info about in-hull retractable rudders
