: You convinced me to swallow my anxieties and go with a wet tape

: 1. With the tape rolled up, how do you get it wet through?
: 2. I can imagine this driping mass of wet tape that is more epoxy that tape.
: How do you avoid too much epoxy?
: The basic problem, as I see it, is getting the tape wet but not having
: excessive epoxy.
: Any tips are appreciated.

Hi Severne,

What I did was to put the scroll in a clean empty plastic cup and pour some (2-3 pumps) epoxy over it. Then using gloved fingers, I poked it a bit and it wet through no problem, it took a couple minutes, it helps if you don't roll it up tight. Then to remove excess epoxy, I gently squashed it against the side of the cup as I was taking it out, you want the stuff wet but not running everywhere, kinda clingy like a wet tshirt.

This is the kind of job that you just have to jump into with both feet, I understand your anxiety, I really stressed out before I did it the first time, but it only took ten minutes or so and was nowhere near as tricky as I had expected (yes I'm still talking about kayak building :)).

Hope this helps, let us know how you go.

Cheers,

Paul
