Dale, thanks for the suggestion but I recently inherited three very old planes (7",6", and 5") they are in pretty good shape, just need a little cleaning. I was almost set on the PC 690 even though I prefered more power for other projects ie; raised door panels. Today I found a 2hp multi speed Dewalt plunge router with built in dust collector attachment (for shop-vac) Its $199.00 and is light wieght and compact. and as far as center of gravity, its no different than a fixed base when its locked into position(which is micro-adjustable). But the Makita did weigh a ton,which concerned me about putting it under a table.
