: Does the book cover lofting? I found ted moores canoecraft at Borders (a
: local bookstore chain) bought it and even though I thought someone had
: said he covered this. It's not in it. I've had many setbacks on starting a
: yak,but hopefully will start soon. Why can't I find his book in a store,do
: I have to order from the net.
: P.S. I'm purchasing a router this weekend, any suggestions.I was looking at
: the Porter Cable kit with the fixed and plunge base so I could leave the
: fixed attached to a router table and use the plunge base for free hand.
: but I think I would prefer one with More power and variable speeds in this
: size the Makita 3hp looks pretty good. what do ya'll use and suggest.

First Routers..... I have the PC690 with a fixed base mounted in a table and a d-handle for free handing. I think it is plenty powerfull. It's way more than you need for coving and beading cedar. The only time you might wish for more power is when doing raised panel doors in hardwoods; then a 3 hp might be nice, but they are awfully heavy the rest of the time. I've noticed most 3-hp models seem to used in tables.

Now the book..... Nick provides offsets for three boats and describes how to decipher the offset tables into a set of points you can plot. If you mean does he describe how to loft the curves of a unique design, the answer is no.

I got my copy from Amazon in no time. I think it is well worth the money. Look at all the service he provides for free!!

Forget the router. Buy a good hand plane. *NM*
