Hi Seth, I used a walnut color Gel stain on a stitch and glue boat I built three years ago. No problems with layup. I have a small spot where I rammed into a rock that has started to delaminate a tiny bit; I couldn't say if it has anything to do with the stain. It will be a quick repair job once I get around to it. I hear that analine dye works too. Remember any sanding/scraping will remove the color so dying individual strips my not be practicle. Glue and compressed wood fibers will resist the color so make sure you have a well prepared surface...

Do a swatch test before you put the stuff on your boat. Good luck with it.

: Has anybody tried to use wood dyes on the strips before gluing? i have been
: pondering building my next boat with a number of colored strips, but am
: concerned with epoxy delamination and dye penetration. (I don't want to
: sand and find out the time spent with dye was fruitless) if this is a bad
: option, has anyone used colorations in epoxy/varnish?

: wny help would be great

: Thanks
