Dave, No need to nail. CLC does it to hold the camber against so much tension. That's why on a cambered plywood deck, I bend in the curve plus a bit and 4 oz. glass the inside. It pretty much holds the shape and you just lay it on and hold it in place with tape while the glue sets up.

Go for it with the recessed fittings. Lots of ideas on this BBS. Check the archives. They will look better with the stripped deck. If you must use the screwed down webbing, put some blocks inside and be sure to round the corners. The little strip to make a ledge for the deck is not really quite the same as a shear clamp. Once you glass the inside seam, you probably won't even be able to see it.

Good Luck
Grant

: Thanks, Grant. That makes a lot of sense and seems to be an easy way to
: attach the deck. I don't think it would need to be nailed to the shear as
: it would already be curved and would have no tendency to spring away from
: the shear. I painted my WR180 around the shear for about 1" as CLC
: does on many of their boats and I like the look. I'll have to try to
: imagine the paint just rounding over the shear slightly.
: With this size shear clamp, do you have any thoughts on attachments for deck
: lines, and bungees? Normally, I would use loops of nylon webbing screwed
: down with #8 X 1 phosphor bronze screws and washers. But 1/4 inch shear
: clamp doesn't have enough meat to to that. Maybe some blocks strategically
: attached to the underside of the deck at the appropriate points? Or
: recessed fittings (another new challenge)?
: Thanks for your help.
: Dave
