Hi there, Dave.

The Cormorant deck appears to be the curved, rounded type, using shear clamps to attach the plywood deck to the hull. This is similar to CLC's way of doing it, so I think I'm only guessing a little bit here... .

What you probably DON'T want to do is simply make a flat panel of strips which you then try to drape over your deck beams. The epoxy or glue you use to assemble the panels will be stronger than the strips; the strips will crack and split when you try to curve the panel. Instead, either put in more deck beams, which could be temporary, or fabricate temporary forms to which you attach the strips, "a la" a regular strip-built design. Since you'll have the hull already, you'll be able to do this by eyeballing things so that the curves are fair.

I'm in the middle of figuring out a strip deck for a Pygmy Coho. This should be a bit easier, as the peaked Coho deck is made from 'flat' sheets of plywood. So far, it looks as though I can "simply" duplicate the pre-cut panels in their flat form, then stitch and glue them just like plywood.

The big drawback to this is that you have to buy the kit, duplicate the parts, then discard those expensive precut parts: The Pygmy boilerplate licensing agreement allows you to make only one boat per kit.

Looks to me like it's your choice on where you want the shear clamp to attach, but the hull shape will be more firm and stable if you put it there, like CLC.
