Rehd,

I did my floors differently than Putz calls for. The floor of my latest cockpit is more like that of a traditional SOF, but I used thinner stringers between the main stringers. These are the ones that needed lashing. I used a heavy waxed polyester thread (by The Leather Factory), when pulled tight it lays very flat. I bought the stuff at a craft store. They also had artificial sinew, but the heavy thread looked better for my purposes. I put the knots away from the skin. I didn't coat them with anything. They don't appear to need it.

I've also never had a scarf joint fail, I think that is the strongest part of my stringers. The failure that I had was from stepping on a stringer that was glued to the bottom of a rib, the glue held, but the stringer cracked.

: Hi Mike

: David Barrett and I were just talking about that last night during a visit.
: He mentioned that I should lash my joints, especially the 1/2 laps I used
: to splice longer pieces. My question is: With what do I do it and do I
: coat it afterwards ( as in epoxy or varathane ) to protect the lashing?
: Also, what kind of wear do you suspect that will cause on the canvas skin
: in these areas? Thanks in advance.... :)
