Thee have been some interesting ideas on this thread. The Innovex Lexan kayak looks as if it is pretty much in the exporatory stage at the moment, but it would be interesting to see and paddle one.

I remember reading a bio of Tom Johnson a long time ago that mentioned that he had once made a plexiglass canoe, but I don't think much was said about its seaworthiness. Tom was an LA fireman who retired at age 49, moved to Kernville, and took up kayaking. He is also an inveterate tinkerer/inventor who is credited with the invention of the neoprene spray skirt and who designed the Hollowform Riverchaser, the first rotomolded river kayak.

He's in his late 70s or early 80s now and still lives in Kernville. I don't know if he still paddles, but he was racing up until a few years ago. He may be able to give some more information on his canoe if you call or write.
