: Sorry, Spidey's kayak won't work as a mold for a clear boat.

I chose spidey's yaks as it was so perfectly smooth. Wonder if it would work if finished in polyurethane before seaming and if he had used an internal strongback to get stability, strength and stiffnes for the vacuforming. Or if the wooden model analogy holds do it after sanding, before finishing. Like the gasket would have to be directly below the deck not so collapses the yak.

: Vaccum forming is a neat thing.. I made a model of a piece of a navy ship
: with a clear skin to show the internals from....I dis-remember the species
: of plastic, not poly carbonate or acrylic...something else.

: I made a wooden mold for it. shaped the plastic great but we couldnt get it
: clear...the surface was always roughend by the surface of the mold,
: polishing didn't help, the molder (professional plastic molding house)
: tried all he could think of. I think that The mold must be metal to chill
: the surface of the plastic instantly before it can mold itself to the
: texture of the mold.

If the mould was rough, no doubt there'd be probs but Did he try flaming it? Or would Ian's polyurethane stick and gloss out? But probably can't get lexan that large. What about if the wood was oiled w/ a high ht oil? Like what won't hot plastick sticvk too? Pam that oven no stick stuff? Like wax would melt too soon, what about engine oil? Hey I know - just use some of those pcb's lying around.

The clear glass'd probably be cool, but I fear scotty'll get aholda this and put in transparent red, amber and green hatch covers!!
