I haven't built a kayak yet, but have used a small inexpensive kerosene heater in my basement garage were I repaired motorcycles in my spare time using all sorts of solvents and chemicals. I do have a co sensor in my shop and having used my heater all day and all night preparing for a race, never had a problem. Like others I would allow some fresh air in every now and then. I also started it on high went upstairs until things heated up then turned it down low and went to work. No strange smells- No headaches- No problems.
