Kerosene space heaters are perfectly safe when used in a house with normal air exchange. My parents used them as supplemental heat and I'm still using the same heaters in my basement and garage when I need heat. They burn very cleanly, efficiently and put out a lot of heat. I have never had a problem with CO, fumes or anything else.
