I had to peel off the glass!

Hi guys!

Once I had fiberglassed my Guillemot hull succesfully, I thought that doing the same job on the deck would be a piece of cake.

But it seems that someone throw rat poison in that piece of cake...

I fiberglassed the deck on a rainy, cold and humid day. I used exactly the same resin I had used to glass the deck, the same mix ratios, the same cups, the same gloves, the same wetting method, etc.

But the resin NEVER cured! I had been waiting for three weeks (three sunny and warm weeks, actually) but this resin kept on wet and tacky.

This morning I decided to peel off the glass and start the whole process again.

In fact, I PEELED it, like an orange. A cured resin would have never let me do a thing like that.

I've read in "The epoxy book" (a System Three publication) that

a) "Although the cure rate of an epoxy is dependent upon temperature, the curing mechanism is independent of temperature" and

b) "System Three epoxy may be used effectively down to 35º F and may be used in 100% relative humidity".

I DID NOT use System Three, and this epoxy is not sold in my country.

The questions are:

i) Are epoxies so different? I mean, can S3's epoxies cure even under frozen water and others (like mine) need almost a controlled room to cure?

ii) Is there any chance that the epoxy I bought was "old"? How can I check that in the future?

This morning I peeled off almost U$S 150. If answer i) is NO and answer ii) is YES tomorrow I'll demand a whole new set of glass and resin for free.

Thanks in advance.

Marcelo
