Well I can add this; If you use stystem three's clear coat you WILL NOT HAVE TO THIN IT. That said it should be noted that S3 is expensive. I have been using RAKA for the last couple of canoes and in my opinion it could be a little thinner and it does behave differently than S3. I use regular S3 to fill the weave. I talked to.....ahhhh Christ can't remember his name at Raka but he said that you could thin it up to 5% with lacquer thinner but NOT acetone... he said something about acetone gettin' funky with epoxy. I made a really swell canoe shelf for a customer and I used 1.5 ounce glass on the outside just to kinda hold everything together and I thinned the epoxy damn near 25% with lacquer thinner with no problems what's so ever.... I was warned that the strenth of the final cure would be less in the thinned stuff but it wasn't a concern on the shelf. My suggestion is to use the correct epoxy from the manufacturer without thinning it. It's kind of a bummer because everyone develops their own likes and dislikes about the materials used to build canoes and you can only find out what works for you after building a few boats... not everyone really wants to do that (well they do but often their significant others don't) LOL I like S3's clear coat... the stuff is damn near as thin as whole milk and wets out INSTANTLY. It also has a nice cure time. I should mention that I don't dislike RAKA, I just cut my teeth so to speak on reg. S3 and then their clear coat so it's what I like. Doug
