If all you're seeing is flat water and small chop on the Great Lakes, you need to get out in more 'small craft advisories'!!! Remember, the waves on the Great Lakes sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald...(hmmm,...I guess that arguement isn't real good...;-)

I once had a couple of people on jet skis tell me I shouldn't be out in the 25-knot-wind small craft advisory -- but my kayak is bigger than their jet-skis, and I don't have any mechanicals to break, only a paddle to lose.
