: Nick and Builders,

:I paddled the boat empty. I am 5' 11" 195#. I agree adding weight should reduce the problem, and will try that out. The problem is definately the wind blowing the boat across the water. The smooth, rounded bottom slides easily over the water. That is why I think it needs more keel. I can see, if the boat had 50 or 80 pounds of gear, it would sit lower, with more keel in the water. As far as trim, the bow rides a little high (I'm told). I built the standard size cockpit opening, at the location in the plans. I could move the seat forward to gain trim, but then my knees would not clear the forward combing lip. I'd rather add some weight up front than move the seat forward. I own, and have seen other plastic boats that have a keel as I described. These short boats tracked quite well, due (I believe) to that keel. To me, using a skeg or rudder in this situation only corrects a hull problem. I'd rather fix the root problem. And by the way, I am very pleased with the boat design, building experience, etc., and help from Nick and you all. No 2 boats of the same design are identical due to the building process, I realize. I still think the Expedition Single is a great boat, and just think mine needs a few tweeks for top performance.
