: Dave, Is the boat turning up into the wind or down away from
: the wind?

  • If it is pointing Up, you want to move your
    : seat Back.
  • If it is pointing Down, you want to move your
    : seat Forward.
The boat wants to turn perpindicular, or 90 degrees to, the direction the wind is blowing. The effect is greatest when heading into the wind, but also apparent when the wind is behind me. I realize this is a natural tendancy for anything being blown across water by the wind. Boats use rudders, skegs, keels, (and momentum) to counteract this, right? Instead of moving the seat, could I add weight to the bow? PS, I paddle the Great Lakes, deal with flat, choppy water vs swells.

Thanks-
