Jack,

The thing that peeves me is that Thule worked with VW to get pins installed under the rubber gutter seal. The Thule (or fatory VW) rack clamps onto these pins so that the door seals are not breached. I have to admit that this was one of my reasons for going with VW. I would have thought that a car designed with roof racks in mind would also have had tie-downs in mind, too.

Thanks for the info -- I'll see if there are some grills that can be removed...
