I have not used either to actually design, analyze, or build a boat. I have played around with hull designer in terms of considering modifying some designs. i do think that it can lay out panels although it is not intuitively obvious. i think there are potential instructions on the website and you can contact the owner etc. they had a few yak designs with the softweare that you can practice modifying first before doing your own. give it a try.

never did try the other one you mentioned.
