I was trying to figure out how to put an image on my hatch cover a month or so ago. I wish this thread had started before I built the hatch! The ideas shared here are intriguing, and probably a lot easier than my method.

I printed the image on paper using my printer, taped it together (larger than 8 1/2" x 11"); and traced it on the wood with graphite paper. I then woodburned the outline of the image and colored it with oil pastel crayons. I posted a question here about how to seal the image since the oil pastel crayon was causing the epoxy to bead up.

After trying some of the suggestions on a scrap piece of wood, I found that glassing over the image was the best solution. That was several weeks ago, an it appears to have worked. There is no sign of the epoxy not taking even after filling the weave and flexing the hatch. I have attached a picture. A few other pictures are posted on my web page (see the link below). If you look closely you can see the wood grain through the color. I apologize in advance for the poor images.

It would have been much easier to print the image directly on the glass and just apply it as some are suggesting here. I print color transparencies at work on a lazer printer, but I do not have the nerve to run a sheet of fiberglass through it!
