While we are sharing cautions...

I don't use a guard on my 10' table saw either - found it too dangerous to work around. The one thing that I did to somewhat compensate for the removal of the guard was to put a strip of florescent tape on the fence to mark the blade area. I use the pusher sticks, face guard and all that other stuff ALL the time.

The one thing that I have to watch myself for is not to use the power tools later in the evening when I start to get tired. I keep a 5 gallon bucket of water in the shop - anytime I want to "just want to quickly finish something" before going to bed - I stop what I am doing, put the tools down... and go stick my head in the bucket!!!

I worked in a wood shop for a summer job as a kid. I saw the 5 Hp table saw kick back on most of a 3/4" sheet of plywood - threw the operator out of the way and fired the sheet 20 feet into a cinder-block wall, knocked half a dozen blocks out of the wall into the parking lot. I was impressed!

Got to respect those tools!
