When I Built my drift boat I used 1/4" fir for the sides and 1/2" fir for the bottom I did not glass the boat but did cover the bottom with gluvit (a very thick epoxy coating) this gives some impact resistande and slides over rocks real well, (Edward Abby is wrong you can hit 'em all). The boat held up well untill it was stolen. 2 layers of 10 oz. should be plenty of glass. Have fun. Bob
