Hi - I built a Ches.17 and I really like it. However, the more I paddle it - the bigger it seems. I weigh 230 and it feels like more volume than I need - so I think the 18 definitely isn't for you. The only thing I don't like about the boat is that deck feels too high. I have to concentrate not to hit my paddle on the deck and using a Greenland style paddle would be out of the question because your elbows extend below cockpit level. In spite of this - the boat is fantastic. For me it is a nice compromise between tracking and manueverability.

You'll have a blast building - try not to inhale anything though.
