Sitting with your knees pretty straight is pretty much unavoidable. It would be a good idea to start a program of hamstring stretches to head off the lower back pain this position can cause.

Many people your size (shoe size larger than 11?) run into footroom problems first. Make sure you have room for your feet while wearing the footwear you intend to paddle in.
