In Response To: 6 hour canoe costs (Brian T. Cunningham)

I just finished building one two weeks ago. I added compartments fore and aft for flotation. I put screw- in deck plates in them for access. I used 1/4 inch marine plywood, and up-sized the chines and gunwales. I glassed the entire outside and sealed the interior with epoxy. It weighs in at 65 lbs, too heavy to get on the car singlehanded. If you don't glass the entire boat and stick to the basic design you can build it for about $150.00. It paddles nicely and is OK for one adult and a child. Don't think I would put two adults in it.
