Look at the kit from Uncle John's country store for his pirogue. www.unclejohns.com/boat

The boat can be made 12 to 15'8'' long and the kit of stem posts, plans and premade frames is $47.50 (US) You add some plywood to this for the sides and floor.

Construction looks simple and quick. Cut plywood sides and screw to the stem and stern posts. Drop in the frames to form the shape. Flip the assembly over so you can lay on flat sheets of plywood for the floor. Trim off the excess plywood, seal the seams, paint it and go.

It looks to be a bit more than 6 hours for a first time job, but I suppose a weekend should do it if you dont have to make multiple trips to the hardware store.

I'd add seats. Nothing fancy, just a few pieces of 1 x 10 resting on wooden cleats that were screwed and glued to the hull sides.
