I too used the wooden block method, though I made it a bit easier. I used my handy dandy hole saw drill bit (2" I think) to make the four pieces of wood identical and predrilled right in the center.

Be advised that there's a bit of weight in the unit, and if course the blocks don't match the hull profile and need either to be shaped (difficult) or you use thickened epoxy (easy). But in either case, the foot brace will wait until you walk away from it to fall down and cure itself directly to the bilge instead of the sides, if you don't put some blocks to hold it in position.
