Mounting Foot Braces

I will be mounting the foot braces that came with my Guillemot kit from Newfound this weekend. From what I can tell you just line them up, drill through the hull, and screw in from the outside with some rubber gasket/washers.

The though of drilling through the hull does not appeal to me at all!!! I envision leaks and stripped holes in the future. Are there any tips that people can give me to ensure a water tight seal and maximum strength. I saw somthing in Nick's book about drilling the hole oversize, filling it in with epoxy and redrilling to the correct size. Is this important.

Anyone have ideas about mounting without drilling through the bottom? Can I Epoxy the brackets directly to the bottom of the hull without screwing through.
