I use a 1/2" x 12" x 8' strip of plywood with a wood strip glued about 8" in from one end. Whenever I have thin stock to plane, or stock that I want to save the whole piece, i lay it on this ply strip with the ends against the glued on strip. This prevents the flexing of thin stock plus it eliminates planer "snipe" found on the end of stock where if falls off the rollers as it is leaving the planner
