just thought i would share with all that it works...some were concerned it would make a mess of perfectly good 1/4 stock. but if you want 3/16 and only have access to 1/4....a thickness planer is the way to go.

Good to hear that.
One thought: A smaller (I'm assuming the Ridgid is a 'portable' thickness planer) thickness planer with closer-spaced rollers is probably a better bet than a larger machine.
With thin stock, having the material 'lift off' of the bed between the rollers can have explosive results! (Done that!)
