Well- to make a long story medium, I am a Greenland technique paddler. My first kayak was an 18" wide skin-on-frame. I wanted to build a surfski/kayak hybrid similar to the Epic 18x because I like to go fast, and a lot of people are using them for touring where I paddle. However, the difficulty of building a simple, feild-repairable under-hull rudder that could withstand rough landings among rocks and a design that would not perform well without a rudder were a combination of risks I didn't want to take. Nothing ruins a trip faster than crippled modes of conveyance. So I am building a version of the kayak Ken Taylor brought back from Greenland in 1959. Here's a little bit of information on that: https://kayakgreenland1959.wordpress.com/2015/11/22/some-final-thoughts/ Anyway- If you read up on the Nanoq design on Björn Thomasson's page, I am building a plywood variant from plans put together by Dan Caouette at Clear Stream Fine Woodworking.
