With convex curves this would all change. For our purposes the layups are probably all stiff enough. It is the point impact resistance that is probably more pertinent.

These days I am using 5mm strips with 4 oz S-glass with an extra layer on the hull inside between and just past the bulkheads and inside on the deck for about 18 inches behind the cockpit.

I think extra glass on the inside adds more relevant stiffness than extra glass on the outside, but I really add it for abrasion thickness inside.

I don't add extra glass to the football or to the stems. Sometimes I add KEELEASY to a boat that might take punishment.

I really can't subjectively tell the difference in stiffness between the 4oz s-glass and 6oz E-glass, but if you push with your thumb on a flattish section of any production boat, in any layup, you feel deflection. Not so with a strip boat, or a ply one.

Knowing what we do about traditional SOF boats and their built in flex, I often wonder if strip boats are not too stiff.
