What does two layers mean? Is it 2 layers on both sides?

What weight are they using to measure deflection?

Two layers means 2 layers on both sides.

They use a testing machine which applies increasing pressure to failure.

Obviously, not real world results, but perhaps a valid gauge of comparison.

Some lay-ups with thinner cores bend more before breaking. If you were building a sailboat with forces of a mast and centerboard to deal with, stiffness would be more important.

For my purposes the comparison between 1/4" and 3/16" cores back-up my experience that there is not much difference in strength, but 3/16" strips are much easier to twist, bend and place on a hull.

I believe Nick is more familiar with the testing details.
