Andy, you make a good point about publishing offsets to allow another designer to modify the design. I must admit that hadn't thought of that aspect - most of my designs are plywood and the plank developments are more convenient for a build. I put out enough information that another builder could create more or less the same boat, unless it's someone else's design of course.

One problem with working from offsets is the amount of work to get them into a form usable by one's preferred hull design software, which tend to be picky. Not a problem to get on paper if one is a competent draftsperson but I am not - a carpal tunnel problem - so a computer is essential. The lack of a sufficiently standardized format for offsets was a problem but "reading" software and spreadsheets solved that. However, an early design for a smooth skin Wee Lassie starting from a hand-drawn plan probably took a as much work as drafting.

It's important to recognize and acknowledge one's inspirations and sources, but it can be difficult to do that in the frenzy of getting an idea into workable form. I like to keep a kind of diary of each design from the get-go; the Wee Lassie in particular has a whole string of credits.
