I can say that in the case of CNC, One of the founders didn't have a lot of money when he was younger and desperately wanted to kayak, but couldn't afford to get into the sport because buying the basics- a kayak- was too expensive. Now that he is more financially secure he has taken a proven historic design and made very accurate panel developments so that people who want to get into the sport can build their own kayak easily and inexpensively, making it possible for a new generation of paddlers to do what he could not when he was younger. Let's face it- not everyone who wants to paddle has a lot of money, right?

I know the guys who are doing it, I have a set of the plans, it's all legit. I have not paddled one, but have seen a couple of the actual kayaks, and they accurately represent the Disko Bay they're patterned on.
