As Matt said, it can be a little "nervous" especially in some conditions with the skeg up.

You are correct- mostly in following or quartering astern conditions. I think that it is because the boat performs so well in surfing. It tends to want to shoot off down waves unexpectedly and in directions you may not expect, which is fine until it broaches out at the end of the surf. You have to switch from ruddering to bracing really quickly, and I find it really stressful on long paddles to have to deal with this over and over. I'm sure that a little bit of skeg would straighten it out, and I'm also sure that having a better, more effective bow rudder would help. I find it very difficult to do a bow rudder with the paddle on the right, and I don't get as much bite with a bow rudder as a stern rudder. I just don't get out enough in those conditions to practice. I've got a skeg half made, and I'm going to finish it up and put it in over the winter.
