Yeah, all boats slap. Maybe you're just not paddling close enough to the others to notice it happening with their boats. My NH doesn't slap any more than a Nordkapp in "slappy" conditions. It also depends on conditions though, right? Every boat has strengths and weaknesses in different conditions. The cockpit on a NH is pretty far back in comparison to other boats, so it rides over waves differently from most commercial boats.

If you only paddle those exact conditions it might get annoying, but I'd try to just ignore it as much as possible. As soon as the conditions pick up a little bit you will absolutely dust the commercial boats. The first time I did some big surf in my NH with guys in commercial boats I sailed right out no problem, and they came back telling tall tales about how hard it was to bust through the waves. Getting out and actually playing the NH caught everything, often without me even trying, and they were all working to get on anything. It's a good design. Just paddle more. You'll get used to it and know what to expect.
