Kajaksport has a skeg kit that would probably solve your problem. The flanged version can even be installed from the outside of the boat. I ordered one from Newfound Woodworks and taxes and shipping to Canada came to 145.00. Of course this includes everything that you need - skeg and box, cable and control unit. I contemplated building my own but forking over less than 150.00 seemed like a much easier option. PLUS I know that the Kajaksport unit will work like I want it.
