Skin-on-Frame: skeg for CLC Arctic Hawk

Someone who I respect with tons of paddling experience and build experience has suggested I would be wise to put a skeg in my A. Hawk build.
So, how does one determine what size skeg to place in a kit boat which says nary a word about a fin hanging down from the hull.
What over the counter medication dulls the pain of cutting a hole in a perfectly good hull?
Thanks for suggestions--if it matters I am heading towards 150 to 160 lbs, 5' 2" ish will be using a greenland paddle much or most of the time. Only have the first 2/3 of a roll nailed, will be staying out of "textured" water unless it developes once I am out on the water, oh yeah 61 and not a male version of Fredia.
