I have only tried the method I described, so I wouldn't want to recommend it over any other.

What I would perhaps recommend is take a bit of waste cockpit cutout and try all possible permutations that seem logical then go with whatever suits for a given situation.

I cut off the indentations of a plastic ice tray which had lovely oval depressions and used them to mold some Maroskes in place. They gave a lovely finish without glass. I will try them with a layer of glass next time.
