A lot of paddlers in Oz seem to have this system - good idea when you need to keep hydrated when it's hot (lots of water); keeps the weight low in the boat.

I use a Kokatat Tributary hydration pack (you'll need to replace the bladder - see reviews at MEC website) which attaches to the PFD. Works well, and it's gotten the water bottle off the deck. It would probably attach to non-Kokatat PFDs pretty well, as it has its own set of webbing and clips for attachment.

Hydration bladder under the bungees would be better than a water bottle - I didn't think of that .
