Nick:

I generally carry very little on the foredeck - mitts, hood, etc. Things that can be flattened out and are hard to wash away. I have a very low paddle stroke and hit my hands off the foredeck even without anything on it. Still, a small load on the foredeck is easier than having to reach behind for a day hatch.

I've yet to adapt this system to my S&G but the bladder lies pretty flat under the deck bungee and has yet to wash off but I do hit it on occasion with my knuckles!!

My Black Pearl only has a simple set of decklines so I can't carry very much up front other than pair of mitts/head wear and goggles!!
